On-Device AI File Search

A cross-platform desktop app that maps every file on a computer and lets people search in plain English with an on-device model. Nothing goes to the cloud without per-request consent.

Redrawn product screen. Names, businesses, people and prices are fictional sample data.

The problem

People lose hours hunting for files, and the AI tools that could help usually want to upload your file list to the cloud.

What we built

The AI never touches the database directly. It translates plain English into the app’s own search syntax, which the real parser validates before it runs, and anything malformed falls back to safe free-text search. Models run locally by default; cloud AI is off unless the user confirms each request.

Capabilities

What it does

  • Plain-English search translated into a validated query language
  • Malformed model output falls back to safe free-text search
  • On-device model by default; cloud AI requires per-request confirmation showing the exact text sent
  • Local semantic search with match scores and a cancellable background index
  • Duplicate finder, cleanup suggestions, storage view and timeline
  • Deletes go through protected-path checks, a preview, confirmation and the system trash
  • Installers for Windows, macOS and Linux with a signed auto-updater
